Bird photos

What is the fastest bird?
I once had a customer ask me if I had any photos of a barn owl. They wanted to display the picture in their home since they lived on a street named Barn Owl Lane. This led to a neighbor of theirs, who lived on a street named Peregrine Street, request a photo of a peregrine falcon. I was hoping that this might catch on, and soon I would be supplying residences of “bird” streets throughout the area. Sadly it didn’t catch on, at least so far it hasn‘t.
As I searched through my stock I began to think about the peregrine falcon. I occasionally see them here in Florida. I don‘t notice them as much as other hawks in area, however they are a treat to view when the opportunity presents itself. The peregrine is a medium size hawk and has the distinction of being the fastest bird recorded in flight. Part of its’ hunting strategy is to dive on its’ prey from great heights. The bird builds up incredible speed in its’ dive. In this video you can see the amazing ingenuity this guy came up with to obtain some incredible footage. Watch this National Geographic video and see how fast they recorded the birds fight.

A pair of red-bellied woodpeckers constructed a suitable nesting hole in an old dead pine tree. On the other side of the same tree, eastern screech owls were trying to raise there brood at the same time.
